What does a home tutor cost in Bangladesh?
This is the first question every parent asks and the one most tuition sites answer with a made-up number. We would rather explain what moves the price, then send you to look at real tutors asking real fees.
We do not publish an average, on purpose
An average monthly fee would be a comforting number and a useless one. The same Class 9 student, in the same neighbourhood, will be quoted very different fees depending on the subject, the number of days, and who is teaching — and any single figure we printed would be wrong for most families reading it.
What we can do is tell you exactly which levers move it.
The six things that set the fee
- Class level. Class 1 to 5 is the cheapest to hire for. HSC and admission preparation are the most expensive, because the pool of people who can teach them is small.
- The subject. Higher Math, HSC Physics and admission coaching cost more than general subjects, for the same reason.
- Days per week. Two days is the usual pattern. Three costs roughly half as much again — the fee is normally quoted per month, not per session, so this is where a "cheap" tutor can quietly become an expensive one.
- Who is teaching. A BUET, medical college or IBA student asks for a premium and often gets it. A public university student in the right department is frequently just as good for school-level work and costs less.
- Where you are. Home tuition includes the tutor's travel. A tutor crossing the city will price that in, or will quietly start looking for a closer student.
- Home or online. Online 1-to-1 removes travel from the tutor's day and widens your choice from your neighbourhood to the whole country. For older, motivated students it is usually the better value. Browse online tutors
How to find the real number for your case
Two ways, both free and both faster than asking around:
Look at what tutors are asking. Every profile on BengalTutors shows the tutor's own declared fee. Search your subject and class level and read ten of them — that is your local market, today, not an average from a blog. Find a home tutor
Post what you need and let tutors come to you. Post a tuition with your subject, level, days and a budget range, or tick "negotiable" if you would rather hear offers first. Your post goes on our public tuition jobs board and tutors reply to it.
What BengalTutors charges
Our fees are on the fees page in full, with worked examples. In short:
- Home tuition. You pay a quarter of the first month's fee to us to confirm the booking, and the tutor pays a quarter as well. The rest of month one you pay the tutor directly. From month two you pay the tutor directly and we take nothing — no monthly cut, ever.
- Online 1-to-1. The first month is paid to us and held, then split with the tutor at the end of it. After that you can continue through the platform for a small monthly percentage — which buys you escrow, replacement cover and receipts — or arrange directly with the tutor.
- Live batches. A flat percentage of each month's fee, taken from the payment, with the rest going to the tutor.
Two things worth knowing about that structure. First, your month one and month two are different numbers for home tuition — month one is lower, because part of your money goes to us instead of to the tutor, and month two is the tutor's full fee. Nobody is raising the price on you; we would rather you knew the shape in advance than discovered it.
Second, most tuition media in Bangladesh charge the tutor half or more of the first month and take nothing from the parent. We split it, which means the tutor keeps more of month one — and a tutor who is not starting the job already out of pocket is a tutor more likely to still be teaching your child in March.
The cheapest tutor is rarely the cheapest
A tutor who quits in week six costs you the fee, the six weeks, and the search. Before you optimise on price, ask the two questions that predict staying: how far do you travel to get here, and how long do you intend to keep this tuition? Honest answers to those are worth more than a thousand taka a month.
