Finding a tutor in Sylhet when the parent is abroad
Sylhet has a tutoring market shaped by something no other district in Bangladesh has to the same degree: a large number of the parents paying the fees are not in the country.
That single fact changes the practical questions. Who lets the tutor in. Who watches the class. Who decides, and how quickly. And it explains why online tuition took hold here earlier and harder than almost anywhere else.
The two Sylhets
There is Sylhet city — Zindabazar and the Sadar area, where the schools, the colleges and most of the tutors are — and there is the rest of the district: Beanibazar, Golapganj, Bishwanath, Balaganj, Companiganj, Fenchuganj, Gowainghat, Jaintiapur, Kanaighat, Osmaninagar, Zakiganj and Dakshin Surma.
If you are in the city, a home tutor is straightforwardly available. If you are in Zakiganj or Gowainghat, the honest answer is that the pool of local subject specialists is small, and the sensible plan for HSC Physics or Higher Math is an online tutor plus a local generalist rather than waiting for the perfect person to appear within cycling distance.
When the parent is abroad
Say it out loud in the first conversation, because it changes the arrangement rather than complicating it.
Fix the class times in Bangladesh time and write them down. A tutor and a parent working from two clocks will lose an hour somewhere in the first fortnight.
Decide who is in the house. Most families here have a grandparent, an uncle, an elder sibling. Name that person to the tutor at the start so there is no negotiation about it later.
Ask for a written weekly line. Not a report — a sentence. What was covered, what was not, what the child struggled with. A tutor who will not send three sentences a week is a tutor you cannot supervise from four thousand miles away.

English medium, and the honest version of it
Sylhet has a real English-medium population, and it produces a specific mismatch: a tutor who is good at English *marks* is not automatically good at English *fluency*, and the two are different purchases. A child who reads and writes well but freezes in conversation needs the second. A child who speaks easily and loses marks needs the first.
Say which one you want. A tutor who is asked for both will usually deliver the one they are better at.
What a tuition costs here
Sylhet fees run close to the national middle for local families and higher where the payer is overseas — which is worth naming plainly, because tutors know it too.
