Home tutors in Narayanganj: how to lose fewer tutors to Dhaka

By BengalTutors Team · 31 Aug 2026

Narayanganj has a tutoring problem that is really a Dhaka problem: half the good tutors here are pointed at Dhaka, and half the good tuitions are competing with Dhaka rates.

It is close enough to the capital that people commute daily and far enough that the commute is real. That produces a market with more churn than anywhere else in the country, and the way to survive it is to stop treating "near Dhaka" as an advantage.

Where you actually are

The district is Narayanganj Sadar, Bandar, Siddhirganj and Fatullah in and around the city, with Rupganj, Araihazar and Sonargaon beyond.

The difference between them matters more here than the district name. A tutor in Rupganj may be genuinely closer to Bashundhara or Uttara than to Narayanganj Sadar, and will drift towards Dhaka tuitions the moment one appears. A tutor in Bandar or Fatullah is anchored here. When you ask, ask about the *area* and about where their other students are — the second answer tells you whether you are their main tuition or their fallback.

The churn, and how to lose less to it

A tutor who leaves in month three costs you more than a slightly less impressive tutor who stays all year, because your child restarts. Three practical defences:

Ask where their other tuitions are. Two in Narayanganj and one in Dhaka is a tutor who will eventually move. Three here is a tutor who lives here.

Pay on time, every month, on the same date. It sounds too simple to matter. It is the single most common reason tutors quietly start looking.

Agree the exam-month arrangement in writing in month one. Most breakdowns happen in an exam month, when a tutor's own schedule collides with your child's and nobody agreed in advance what happens.

What tuition costs

Narayanganj sits just below Dhaka, and tutors here know exactly what Dhaka pays. Expect to be quoted near-Dhaka rates and expect the argument for them: the traffic, the travel, the time.

Some of that is fair. What is not fair is a rate that keeps rising after the arrangement starts. Our position is published and does not move: a placement fee charged once in the first month, split between both sides, and nothing from month two onwards. You pay the tutor directly, in full, from the second month for as long as the tuition lasts. The actual figures.

The online option nobody in Narayanganj uses enough

Because Dhaka feels close, families here keep looking for a Dhaka tutor to come to them, which is the most expensive and least reliable way to solve the problem.

For a single hard subject at HSC level, an online tutor from a Dhaka or engineering university costs less, cancels less and starts sooner. Keep the local tutor for the daily subjects and put the difficult paper online. Online tutors
