What a Verified Tutor Actually Means, and Why It Matters

By BengalTutors · 01 Aug 2026

Every tuition site in Bangladesh shows a verified badge. Very few say what was actually verified. The word has been used so loosely that parents have stopped believing it — reasonably.

What verification should cover

Identity. A national ID or student ID, matched against the name and photograph on the profile. This is the floor. Without it, nothing else means anything.

Education. Not just "studies at Dhaka University" but the department, the year, and evidence — a student ID card, an admit card, a transcript. For SSC and HSC subjects the department matters more than the institution.

Contact. A working phone number that belongs to the tutor, confirmed by actually reaching them.

Photograph. A real, current one. If a parent cannot recognise the tutor at the door, the profile has failed at its basic job.

What verification cannot promise

This is where most platforms are quiet, so we will not be.

It does not prove they can teach. A verified BUET student may be brilliant at Physics and hopeless at explaining it to a fifteen-year-old. Verification confirms who someone is, not how good they are.

It does not predict reliability. Whether a tutor still shows up in month four is about distance, workload and how they were treated — not documents.

It is a snapshot. Someone verified in January may have graduated, moved city, or taken a full-time job by June.

Anyone who tells you a badge guarantees teaching quality is selling you something.

Questions that expose a hollow badge

Ask any platform these, including us:

Why it matters more here than elsewhere

You are inviting someone into your home, alone with your child, for hours each week, often when you are at work. In most countries that involves a background check. In Bangladesh it usually involves a phone call and hope.

That gap is the entire reason verification exists, and it is why a badge with no stated method is worse than no badge — it manufactures confidence without earning it.

How we do it

We publish our process rather than asking you to trust the word: how BengalTutors verifies every tutor.

And when you have a verified tutor in front of you, the real work begins — what to do before you hire and the questions to ask first.
