Home Tutors in Uttara: Fees, Sectors Covered and How to Book
Uttara is one of the easiest parts of Dhaka to find a good home tutor in, and one of the easiest to get wrong. The sectors are far enough apart that a tutor in Sector 3 will not reliably reach Sector 13 on a weekday evening.
Sector by sector
Tutors quote by travel time, not distance. In practice Uttara splits into three clusters:
- Sectors 1, 3, 5, 7 — closest to the main road and the best served. Largest pool of tutors.
- Sectors 4, 6, 9, 11 — well covered, slightly fewer tutors, especially for English medium.
- Sectors 10, 12, 13, 14 — thinner. Worth considering online 1-to-1 for scarce subjects like Higher Maths.
If your tutor lives in a different sector, agree a start time that accounts for the traffic on Jashimuddin and Rajlakshmi. A tuition scheduled at 6pm that actually starts at 6:40 will not survive the term.
Where Uttara's tutors come from
The local pool is unusually strong because of the universities in and around the area. Expect tutors from:
- BUET and the engineering universities — Physics, Higher Maths, admission preparation
- University of Dhaka and Jahangirnagar — most SSC and HSC subjects
- Medical colleges — Biology and Chemistry, particularly for medical admission candidates
- North South, AIUB, IUB and similar — strong for English medium and English version
For English medium in particular, Uttara is one of the better areas in Dhaka. The supply is genuinely there.
Typical monthly rates in Uttara
Three days a week, one subject, one hour a session:
- Class 1 to 5 — Tk 3,000 to 5,000
- Class 6 to 8 — Tk 4,000 to 6,500
- Class 9 to 10 — Tk 5,500 to 9,500
- Class 11 to 12 — Tk 7,000 to 13,000
- English medium — add roughly 30 to 50 percent
