Tuition Media in Bangladesh: How They Work and What They Really Charge
If you have looked for a home tutor in Bangladesh, you have dealt with a tuition media — the local term for an agency that matches tutors to families. Most operate the same way and almost none explain their fees before you are committed.
How the model works
1. A parent posts a requirement, or a tutor registers.
2. The media matches them and shares contact details.
3. The tuition begins.
4. The tutor pays the media a share of the first month's fee.
Step four is the whole business. The parent usually pays nothing to the agency, which sounds generous until you follow the money.
What each one charges
- TuitionByte — tutor pays 50 percent of the first month

- BengalTutors — tutor pays 25 percent, parent pays 25 percent, first month only
Why "the parent pays nothing" is not a gift
When a tutor surrenders half or more of their first month, three things follow, and every parent eventually meets at least one.
Rates drift up. A tutor who knows they will lose 60 percent of month one quotes higher to cover it. You pay the agency's commission; it is simply buried in the rate.
Tutors go around the agency. A tutor facing that loss has a strong reason to take your number and deal directly. When that happens you also lose the replacement guarantee that made the agency worth using.
Turnover is high. Tutors who feel fleeced on placement do not stay. Families end up restarting with a new tutor two or three times a year, which costs the student far more than any commission.
Splitting the fee between both sides is not charity. It is what keeps the tutor on the platform and your quoted rate honest.
What to check before you use any tuition media
Is the fee stated before you commit? If you cannot find the number without registering, that is the answer.
Is the tutor verified, and how? Ask specifically what was checked: national ID, student ID, certificates, or nothing at all. A "verified" badge with no stated method means nothing.
Is there a replacement guarantee, and how long? A week is standard and reasonable. No guarantee at all means the agency's job ends the moment money changes hands.
Are you told the tutor's university and department? For SSC and HSC subjects this predicts teaching quality better than years of experience does.

For tutors: what to check on the other side
How much of month one do you lose, and is it capped? An uncapped 60 percent on a Tk 12,000 tuition is Tk 7,200 gone.
Do you pay before or after the tuition is confirmed? Paying up front for a tuition that never starts is the most common complaint in this industry.

Are contact details protected? If a parent's number is handed out to twenty tutors, you are competing with nineteen people for a tuition that may already be filled.

Tuition media exist because the alternative — parents and tutors finding each other through relatives and shop-window notices — is slow and unreliable. A good one is worth paying for. The question is not whether to use one, but whether it tells you the price before you are in.
