How to Find Tuition Jobs in Dhaka: A Tutor's Guide

By BengalTutors · 26 Jul 2026

Private tuition is how most Bangladeshi university students fund their degree. It is also badly organised, and a new tutor can lose a month's income to avoidable mistakes. This is what we would tell a friend starting out.

Where tuition jobs come from

Tuition media and platforms. The largest single source in Dhaka. You register, you are matched, and you pay a share of the first month. Fastest route, and the one with the clearest terms — provided you check them. Ours are on the tuition jobs board, visible without an account.

Your own university network. Seniors passing on tuitions they are leaving. The highest-quality source there is, because the family already trusts the recommendation. Tell every senior in your department that you are looking.

Your own area. Parents strongly prefer a tutor who lives nearby, because a tutor who is fifteen minutes away actually turns up in monsoon. If you live in Mirpur, teach in Mirpur.

Facebook groups. High volume, no verification. Fine as a supplement; be careful about advance payments and addresses that turn out not to exist.

What you can expect to earn

Per subject, three days a week, in Dhaka:

Two or three tuitions is a realistic load alongside a full course. Four is possible; five is where your own results start to slip.

What decides whether you are chosen

Your university and department, stated plainly. For Physics and Higher Maths an engineering university student is the obvious pick. For Biology and Chemistry a medical college student is. Parents know this. Say it in the first line.

The exact area you can reach. Not your home address — the areas you will actually travel to on a wet Tuesday evening. Listing all of Dhaka makes you look unserious and gets you matched to tuitions you will refuse.

Specific subjects and class levels. "I teach everything" reads as "I teach nothing well". "HSC Physics, Higher Maths and Chemistry" gets you the tuition.

A photograph and a verified profile. Parents are inviting a stranger into their home to sit with their child. Anything that reduces that risk moves you up the list.

Your results, briefly. Admission test rank, GPA, or a previous student's improvement. One line, specific, no boasting.

The traps

Paying anything before a tuition is confirmed. No legitimate platform asks a tutor to pay before the family has agreed. If you are asked, walk away.

Uncapped first-month commission. Sixty percent of a Tk 12,000 tuition is Tk 7,200. Know the number before you accept, not after.

Taking a tuition too far from home. Two hours of travel for a Tk 4,000 tuition is not worth it, and you will quit within two months — which hurts the student most.

Agreeing a fee without agreeing the days. "Tk 6,000" means nothing until you both say three days or five, one hour or two.

Not fixing a payment date. Set it at the start. Chasing payment mid-month poisons an otherwise good tuition.

The first week decides everything

Most families make up their minds in the first two or three sessions. In that window: arrive on time, bring a plan for the term rather than the day, find out which specific chapters the student is failing, and tell the parent what you found. A tutor who reports back after week one is a tutor who keeps the tuition for two years.
